Bladen County is considered a "High Hazard"
County. A Burning Permit MUST
be obtained before burning. If you attempt to burn without a permit, a citation can be issued.
Due to an increase in unlawful burning without a permit, the North
Carolina Forest Service is stepping up enforcement measures.
Tar Heel Fire Department cannot issue burn permits.
Permits can be obtained from a Burning Permit Agent or by submitting an On-Line Burning
Permit Application. The closest Burning Permit Agents to the Tar
Heel Fire District is Richardson and Sons Grocery on NC Hwy 20, the IGA
on NC 410 in Dublin, and Cains Grocery on NC 53 in White Oak. A
link has been provided below to access the On-Line Burning Permit
Application. Before submitting the application, access the two
links provided for the Regulation of Open Fires and the Air Quality
Regulations. This information will educate you on the legalities
involved in outdoor burning. Select Bladen County to access the
Application Page. If you intend to burn more than 5 acres, select
the High Hazard County Special Burning Permit Page and familiarize
yourself with its content. Complete the application with an email
address and if approved, the North Carolina Forest Service will respond
with an email to you containing a Burning Permit Number. Keep this
number on your person during burning activities.
Also, there is a link to a Readiness Plan Map.
The Readiness Plan is a threat level system established by the North
Carolina Forest Service to indicate how the current environmental
measurements (relative humidity, wind speed, dew point, etc) will effect
fire conditions. In short, the higher the number, the more intense
a brush fire is likely to be based on the moisture level on the ground
therefore the Forest Service may stop issuing burning permits and
decline an Application.
